Email Settings

If you plan to use the email capabilities in Capture Express you will need to set up email information. Click on Options | Preferences | Email to enable the email functions of Capture Express.

Capture Express > Options > Preferences > Email > Email Settings tab

General Email Settings

Email Protocol

Select from two email options.

Email Using an SMTP Server

With this option Capture Express will directly send the email. You will need to define the SMTP settings correctly in order for the email to be sent.

Email Using Your Default Email Client

This option will open your default email program and attach the captured image to the message. Capture Express will only be able to send email using your default email client if it is compatible with the Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI).

Keep a Log of All Messages Sent

This option will log all email messages sent through Capture Express to an email log file. The file can be reviewed by clicking on Tools | View Sent Email Log from the Capture Express window.

SMTP Server Settings

The SMTP Server is what allows you to send email over the Internet. You will need to obtain this information from your Internet email provider or you may obtain it from the configuration section of your email program.

Host

The "Host" value may appear as a series of numbers and periods such as 192.168.0.1 or as a set of characters looking something like a web site name such as mail.myisp.com.

Port

The port number is almost always 25. When in doubt, set this value to 25.

SMTP Server Authentication

The SMTP Server Requires Authentication

Your email provider may require that you use SMTP Server Authentication. If required, select this option and insert your user name and password in the appropriate fields.

In email clients, incoming email uses a POP3 server. Outgoing mail uses an SMTP server. Capture Express does not read incoming mail. Therefore it supports only the SMTP services. Do not enter the information for the POP3 server instead of the SMTP server. It is usually necessary to enter a name and a password to authenticate the POP3 connection. However, depending on your ISP, it is often unnecessary to enter a name and password to authenticate the SMTP server.

Leave this option unchecked if authentication is not required.

Email Address

This is the name and email address that will display in the return address of email that you send. Please note that if you do not enter your email address correctly, any replies to the email will be sent to an incorrect address.
